EMPLOYMENT

Database of unemployed and under-employed people
We have developed a customized paper form to collect information from unemployed or under employed men and women we meet with. This is used to assist in linking them with gainful employment. A Zulu interpreter has been employed who gathers the information regarding each person’s skills and experience. The form contains data such as contact information, prior learning and experience details, skills and reference information. We have also developed a database that electronically stores all the information captured from the paper forms. This information assists in linking an unemployed worker with an employment opportunity that we are made aware of in the city.

Job linkage service
We receive calls daily from housewives to small businesses and large companies. Their requests are matched against current availability, placement suitability and skill. We have seen several hundred people find employment since we began – this includes both temporary and permanent employment. This is a free service to the local business community on behalf of the unemployed.

We have placed domestic workers, child-minders, labourers for construction businesses, merchandisers, data capturers, labour for loading and unloading of furniture and equipment, trench diggers, catering staff, kitchen staff, nursing staff, HIV counselors, general administration, receptionists, painters.
